An enthusiastic botanist is in charge of sequoia cultivation (taking cuttings and raising them to a suitable age for planting in the open air). She has been growing and propagating ornamental and forest broadleaf and coniferous tree species in need of protection from extinction for many years.

Why are you using Blockchain for your project?

We want to attract attention of young and progressive people to environmental problems. Also our goal is to use all the best from Blockchain and NFTs to create valuable and innovative crypto environmental-friendly project with interesting game around it.

Is the climate in Albota de Sus fits for Sequoias?

Our Sequoias (Sequoiadendron giganteum), unlike the evergreen Sequoia (Sequoia sempervirens), are extremely difficult to reproduce even in their natural environment. This is why several years of intensive care are required after rooting cuttings. Strengthening occurs in a "tree school" where a special favorable environment is maintained: temperature, light, and humidity. In the 3 or 4 years, they will be mature enough to be planted in the open ground. The humidity, the winter temperatures of USDA Zone 6, and the chemical composition of the soil at Albota de Sus are perfect for growing the Giant Sequoia. Moldova's climate meets its introduction requirements, especially in the south of the country where Albota de Sus is located. In addition, windbreaks will be planted along the perimeter of the young plantings for additional protection from wind.

Why you decided to create the game around Sequoias?

We want to make solving environmental problems interesting to very wide audience of people. For people who are interested in solving them as well as for those who are not. Good and interesting game can keep attention and engage community members.

How did the idea of growing Sequoias come about?

The Giant Sequoia is a tree that has lived for over 150 million years, is the same age as the dinosaurs and giant flying lizards, predates mammals, and survived the great extinction of the Cretaceous Period. Its needles have fed the largest organisms throughout Earth's history. But today, it needs human support. There are 30 small groves of Sequoias left in California. The seed germination rate is meager (10-25%), and shoots, unlike Seq. Sempervirens, do not propagate. In the 19th and 20th centuries, Sequoia gigantea was cut down because of the value of its wood. Humanity has done much to make this species of unique trees go extinct. Our enthusiastic botanist is concerned about this problem. She decided to make an effort to restore the Sequoiadendron giganteum population.

What are your plans for Sequoia reviving?

We want to plant more than 100,000 Sequoias.

How much land is needed for 1 Sequoia?

For the optimal life span, which is about 2000 years, the Sequoia needs approximately 400m2, i.e., 20x20 m2.

How much does Sequoia absorb C02?

A single Sequoia absorbs about 500,000 kg of C02 over the entire life (2000 years).
